A FAB-U-WISH FOR LISA

Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 37, just six short years after her mother had been diagnosed with the same type of breast cancer. As a single mother, Lisa has had to split her time between her two children, ages two and six, and her draining treatments. Since the diagnosis, she has undergone a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, and has even gone back to work full time. Luckily, her parents have been extremely helpful to her throughout treatment in helping to care for her children, but her house felt crowded and disorganized.

The two were sharing one room filled with miss-matched furniture and too many belongings. Going through treatment, the family spent a lot of time at home, so Lisa wished for each of her children to get a new bedroom to create a more comfortable and stress-free home environment. FAB-U-WISH and Ashley Home Furniture were pleased to step in to make her wish a reality! After hearing more about Lisa’s children, the team pieced together the perfect furniture to fit each child’s personalities.

One Saturday morning, Ashley Home Furniture sent over a truck full of furniture and two staff to help set everything up. Lisa and her children loved the new furniture and the atmosphere it created: the purple for Lisa’s daughter made her feel like a princess while playing dress-up and red and blue for Lisa’s son matched his passion for super-heroes (his favorite being his super-hero mom). Both children were thrilled to play in their own rooms and organize their belongings into their new storage spaces. The new set-up even encouraged the kids to sleep in their own rooms – a bit of a relief for their mother! Lisa was thrilled with the way the rooms looked and happy she’s no longer tripping over Barbie dolls and Legos. Her granted wish gave her the confidence she needed before heading into her last two surgeries, and coming out cancer free!
