Although we have been unable to come together in person in recent months in support of our mission, The Pink Agenda’s leadership and supporters remain committed to our cause and have taken to Zoom to raise money, raise awareness, and raise hell for breast cancer research
TPA has hosted virtual workout classes, a wine tasting, a cooking nutrition demonstration, and an online shopping event. Funds raised through those events will support nearly 100 hours of lifesaving breast cancer research. We’re so grateful to all who have attended a virtual TPA event, your dedication to our mission is greatly appreciated – stay tuned for more information on what’s to come, we hope to “see” you at the next one!
Research Update
TPA Investigator Dr. Isaac Chan recently published exciting findings from his TPA-funded study focusing on how metastatic breast cancer (MBC) cells co-opt the immune system’s natural killer (NK) cells, which typically launch attacks against tumors, to instead assist in supporting the spread of MBC.
Dr. Chan and his co-investigators mapped interactions between MBC cells and NK cells, and used these findings to block inhibitory signals which allowed NK cells to continue performing their usual function of clearing out MBC cells. They are encouraged that this approach could be used to prevent metastases from forming, and will also test whether this approach can reactivate NK cells to respond to an existing metastasis.
